Muir Omni Graphics has once again been recognized for its commitment to superior quality and protecting the environment by successfully achieving certification in the latest version of two internationally renowned quality standards: ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.
Muir Omni Graphics had been certified in ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 for the past several years. In 2015, the International Organization for Standardization announced it had updated the standards; companies certified under the older versions would have until September 2018 to achieve certification under the new standards.
As proof of its company-wide focus on excellence and the environment, Muir Omni Graphics successfully transitioned to the new standards far ahead of schedule – and far ahead of thousands of other ISO-certified companies. In fact, less than 10 percent of organizations currently certified to ISO 9001 have completed the transition to the 2015 version to date.
“Transitioning to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 is a significant accomplishment for our company,” explains Tobbias Day, Director of Process Control. “A lot of companies do not go the extra step to achieve environmental certification, but at Muir Omni Graphics, we feel that the two standards go hand-in-hand.”
Transitioning to the new standards ahead of schedule proved to be an excellent strategy for the company, which had launched its groundbreaking Moving Muir Forward initiative in late 2015. The initiative not only renewed Muir Omni Graphics’ commitment to delivering exceptional products and services – it also involved an innovative restructuring of its high-performing management team.
“The timing was right,” Day added.
So in early 2016, Day attended an intensive one-day ISO seminar in Chicago, and Muir Omni Graphics’ recertification journey officially began. The team’s first challenge was analyzing the company’s existing quality and environmental management systems against the new standards, identifying gaps and then working to fill them.
As Director of Process Control, Day led the company’s efforts. He was joined by Muir Omni Graphics’ new Process Quality/Compliance Team Lead Rakesh Ramasamy, who introduced a number of highly effective measurement tools, including a data-driven dashboard to monitor the company’s success in meeting established quality and environmental metrics.
